Inter-league play is now in full swing, lets take a look at how the NL East teams fared against the AL Sunday.

New York Mets : 4

New York Yankees : 5

Mets Take : The Yankees complete their sweep of the Mets. While you can’t really ever say a team ‘Should have’ done something in the game of baseball, the Mets should have won today. They had every opportunity, Jon Niese pitched very well, allowing only 2 unearned runs  trough 7 innings. The two runs occurred after a David Wright error extended the seventh rather then ending it on a ground ball.  After the Yankees took the lead in the 8th (with help from another Mets error) the Mets tied it back up in the 9th off an Ike Davis RBI double, but promptly lost in walk-of fashion when Russell Martin hit his second home run of the afternoon. The Mets will try to right the ship as they head to Tampa to take on the Rays.

Washington Nationals : 4

Boston Red Sox : 3

Nats Take : The Nats sweep the Red Sox. When the schedule was released all those months ago, how many people assumed a first place team would sweep a last place team in this series? Now, how many of you thought that the Nats would be the first place team? There are so many impressive aspects to the Nats run right now, but most impressive is how they are getting contributions from every part of the team; the bullpen, the rotation, the bench, all do what it needs to do to get the win. Roger Bernadina was the hero with the late inning RBI double to score Bryce Harper in Sundays game. This team is fun to watch and has some great chemistry. If they continue to find ways to score there is no telling how many games they can win. The Nats head north of the border to take on the Blue Jays next.

Philadelphia Phillies : 3

Baltimore Orioles : 4

Phillies take : There isn’t much to say about the Phillies. Actually, I misspoke, there is so much to say that there aren’t enough ways to express it. The fact that Cliff Lee has not recorded his first win yet is sort of a microcosmic of the Phillies season up to this point; a lot of potential with very little to show for it. The Phillies lost back to back extra inning games to the Orioles, and head to Minnesota having lost 8 of their 10 games this month. They are now 8 games behind the Nats for the division and 5.5 games out of the wild card. There is a lot of baseball still to play, but that doesn’t make Philadelphia’s position any less shocking.

Miami Marlins : 2

@

Tampa Bay Rays : 4

Marlins Take : The Rays completed the sweep of the Marlins last night pushing the Marlins losing streak to six games. It feels like just the other day the Marlins seemed to be clicking and about to go on a run, but they have struggled to put runs on the board over this extended losing streak. They were outscored 22 to 7 against the Rays and 21 to 3 against the Braves. After raking in the month of May Giancarlo Stanton has cooled off in June hitting just .243 this month. Both the pitching staff and the offense need to get it together in order to turn these struggles around.

Atlanta Braves : 4

@

Toronto Blue Jays :  12

Braves Take : The Braves took the first two games against Toronto before Atlanta pitching surrendered 12 runs on 18 hits. Livan Hernandez gave up 5 runs in relief and the braves could not exploit Toronto’s bullpen. The Braves have been playing well, so this loss is just a slight hiccup. They have won 6 of their 8 June games and have received great starting pitching so far this month. They are going to need that to continue as red hot Yankees come into town.
