Holliday to the Cards

According to Ed Price of Fanhouse , a deal sending Matt Holliday to the Cardinals for a possible truckload of prospects is close to being done, and in fact is being completed as we speak.

This trade would have some implications on the NL East immediately as you would assume being the A’s are in NYC right now playing the Yankees that he could potentially be in uniform tonight for the Cardinals as they play the Philadelphia Phillies in Philly.

Can the Cardinals resign him?

You also wonder if this is only the first major piece to drop at this trade deadline too.

We will bring you any major trades here at NLEC, especially if they have implications on the National League East.

Update: 12:15PM – According to Bernie Miklasz of the St. Louis Post Dispatch its in the medical review stage…. Matt, get on that train to Philly.

Update: 12:20PM – deal is complete according to, details from what public knowledge is that The A’s receive at least Brett Wallace, and likely Shane Peterson and Clayton Mortensen.  The A’s will pay 1.5 of the remaining 6M of Holliday’s 2009 Salary.
