Quick Hits

Ryan Tucker pitched his best start of the season on Thursday. It was only his fourth start of the season in New Orleans and the second since his return to the AAA club. In his last two starts he has gone at least five innings and given up no more than 3 earned runs in both starts. While his ERA for the season in New Orleans sits 8.04 due largely to his poor outing on April 14th. However, in his two starts his K:BB ratio is 5:7, something he needs to continue to work on. It should be interesting to see how Tucker does for the remainder of the season. He was 5-3 with a 1.58ERA in AA Jacksonville last year with a 7.33 K/9.

Matt Dominguez has really hit the ball well lately. In his last 10 games, he is hitting .375 (12 for 32) with 4 walks and only 5 strikeouts. Although he is only hitting .265 on the season, hopefully this improvement continues. He also has 11 home runs and 51RBI on the season. Strikeouts have been a problem for him this season as he strikes out twice for every walk in 2009. Dominguez has just been rated the 40th best prospect in MLB.com’s latest ranking. He was a star last year in Greensboro, hitting .296/.354/.499 with 18HR and 70RBI in just 88 games. Throughout his short career in the minors, strikeouts have been his biggest problem, but the upside he shows at the age of 19 is impressive. His 2008 power numbers translate well to a 150+ game season, but in 2009 both his power numbers and average have dropped but again, he is only 19.
